We ask you to join us, the Jewish Federation of Central New York, Jewish Community Center of Syracuse, our community synagogues and other Jewish institutions for a vigil for the victims from the Tree of Life Synagogue on Monday, October 29, 2018. We will gather at the JCC at 5:00 pm.

The Jewish community of Central New York is shocked and saddened by the horrific attack on the Jewish community of Pittsburgh. Our prayers go out to the victims, their families and the members of their community, may they find comfort in the days to come; and we offer our gratitude to the brave first responders in Pittsburgh who risked their lives to prevent further bloodshed.

Federal, state, county and local law enforcement agencies are aware of our concerns for the safety and security of our Jewish community and we are grateful for their support and vigilance. We have coordinated our efforts to assure additional property checks will be made at synagogues, the JCC and other Jewish institutions. Our partners in law enforcement are not aware of any threats to our community but again request that if you see or hear anything that appears suspicious or threatening, call 911.

Anti-Semitism and hatred in any form are antithetical to our faith and an affront to humanity. For the victims, we will mourn. For the living, we will continue to fight for a better, more just world.

May the memories of those lost be a blessing forever.
